Even after over 500 years since city fell to the Catholics (1491) the Islamic past here still feels strong. Once it was one of the richest cities in Europe and today we can admire one such place of that rich past - the Moorish palaces of the Alhambra. It's hugely popular (some 6 000 visitors go through daily) so book your tickets online (14 euro) in advance (2 months at least) and pick them up in Granada from any La Caixa (yellow in color) bank-machine. It's safe and it works! You can choose your time-slot as well, once inside keep your ticket safe as it will be checked many times again and again at many different locations. Be ready to queue too. Alhambra complex is so immense you can easily spend 4-5 hours there just looking around. You can reach Alhambra on foot (only if you feel fit enough) or by bus (small, red colored Alhambra bus), don't panic as it goes up to the hills and in totally different direction! Eventually it will take you to Alhambra, but maybe with slight delay.
The Mirador San Nicolás offers you amazing views of the Sierra Nevada (with the snow-capped peaks) mountains and the Alhambra. Flamenco style music, gypsy looking women and ...almost invisible pick-pockets!

In Granada the "free tapas" culture is still alive, so order a drink and you get something to bite too. Try bacaleo fish, it's very soft and goes well with cold vermut (vermouth).

Just next to cathedral is Alcacería where you can buy anything from loose tea (2 euro) to hookahs or even beautifully crafted slingshots!
